A man has been lashed in court this morning after driving more than three times over the alcohol limit and smashing into a series of parked cars in Sydney’s inner west earlier this year.

Sumeet Singh, 28, was labelled a “potential killer” and “a danger” after the full details of his drunken smash up in Marrickville were aired in the Newtown Local Court.

Singh, the court heard, has taken out a loan to pay back $19,000 in damages to the other vehicles after he ploughed into them with a blood-alcohol level of 0.157.

“He is a potential killer,” an incredulous Magistrate Glenn Bartley said.

“It is only by good luck that he hasn’t collided with a pedestrian.”

The IT engineer was arrested in the early hours of February 22 after Inner West Police Command officers were stopped by a member of the public and alerted to the scene of destruction on Wardell Rd, Marrickville.

Four parked car’s, including Sing’s Mazda 3 Sedan were all damaged in the chaos.

Singh was banned from driving for nine months.

His lawyer Osman Samin told the court Singh had completed the traffic offenders program, was living at home with his mother and is engaging with Alcoholics Anonymous.

Magistrate Bartley said given the high reading, he refused the submission that Singh did not have an alcohol problem and that this was a “one off incident”.

Given the coronavirus pandemic, an option of community service was not available and Sing was sentenced to a three-year community corrections order after pleading guilty to high-range drink driving.

Singh was also fined $1000, disqualified from driving for nine months and placed on an interlock order for three years.
