A Harbour Bridge climber suffered minor head injuries after falling 5m off a ladder while taking part in a BridgeClimb on Saturday evening.
The man, aged 52, was left suspended for more than an hour after a lengthy and delicate police operation to winch him free from his precarious position.
Emergency services swarmed onto the scene after the man tumbled attempting to get one of the best views of the city as part of an official BridgeClimb group about 6.30pm, police said.
It is understood the man fell 5m off a ladder at the base of the climb.
The climber was eventually freed about 9pm and taken to St Vincent's Hospital in a stable condition with minor head injuries. He has since been discharged.
BridgeClimb said its first aid responders helped before emergency crews arrived.
"The climber is in good health, was kept comfortable and was checked over as a precaution in hospital and accompanied by a BridgeClimb team member and did not sustain any spinal or serious head injuries," a BridgeClimb spokeswoman said.
"The safety and welfare of our customers and team is BridgeClimb’s immediate priority at this present time. We will work closely with the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this incident."
