Shute Shield: Top six clubs playing for position in finals, results, ladder

The six teams to advance to the finals of Shute Shield have been determined after a big upset on the weekend. But there is a twist and plenty to play for in the final round of the regular season.

The six teams to fight out in the finals of the Shute Shield have been determined with a round of the Premier rugby competition in hand.

But there is plenty on the line in round 13 with every position but Gordon’s at the top of the table to be determined.

Southern Districts and Warringah’s losses proved costly, knocking both teams out of finals contention.

Going into round 13, Gordon leads the ladder with 10 wins and just one loss.

Norths are second with nine wins and two losses with Eastwood, Eastern Suburbs and Randwick all on eight wins and three losses.

Sydney University rounds out the six with seven wins and four losses.

Sydney University 34 Northern Suburbs 15

With their season on the line, Sydney Uni inflicted only Norths second loss of the season.

Sydney Uni’s game included two penalty tries and an amazing intercept try from Matthew Hood.

Also scoring for the Students was Thomas Robertson.

Nick Duffy, in his 50th game, scored for North’s, along with Max Burey.

Eastwood 47 Warringah 21

Eastwood extracted revenge on the club which put them out of the competition in the semi-finals last year.

Young kicker Tane Edmed was a standout with Mark Nawaqanitawase and Matthew Gonzales going over twice for Eastwood.

Fabian Goodall and Patrick CEO also scored for Eastwood.

Warringa’s tries were scored by Harley Anderson Brown, Joshua Holmes and Boyd Killingworth.

Eastern Suburbs 52 Two Blues 36

Eastern Suburbs’ returned to form continued on the weekend despite a long list of injuries to players which saw nine forced changes to the team.

Will Maddocks went over for three tries with Blake Rixon, Zachary Woolford, Vunipola Fifita, Cohan Guerra Henry Paterson all scoring.

It was the biggest score of the year with Gordon confirming their favouritism heading into the finals and the club its position at the top of the points table as minor premiers.

Tries in the match were scored by Ahmu Tuimalealiifano, Mike Pavlakis, Ellis Abrahams, Jack Dempsey, Jacob Abel, Oliver Smeallie (2), Reece Macdonald (2), Brendan Mitchell, Tautalatasi Tasi (3), Peter Chanel Tagalog and Lucas Price.

Manly 43 Southern Districts 39

This result put Southern Districts out of the race for the Shute Shield finals.

Manly had already missed the opportunity to make the final six.

Manly’s tries were scored by Max Douglas, Ben Cross, David Crerar, Fraser Toohey (2) Harley Attwater and Yool Yool.

Souths try scorers included Liam Mosley, Jordan Brown, Joe Cotton and Christian Kagiassis.

West Harbour 41 Newcastle Wildfires 26

The Pirates will finish outside the top six but have troubled plenty of teams in the back half of the season.

West Harbour shared the scoring around against the Newcastle side with their tries scored by James Turner, Justin Tavae, Jordan Sharp, Dion Spice, Tavite Gadeisuva and Patrick Pellegrini.

Hamish McKie went over twice for the Newcastle side with their other scorers George Noa and Chase Hicks.
