Another chapter in Mehajer family controversy has emerged after the disgraced former Auburn deputy mayor’s sister was charged by police.
Mariam Mehajer, the 20-year-old model sister of Salim, was stopped by detectives driving around the streets of western Sydney in a plush black Alfa Romeo with a licence plate bearing her brother’s name.
The only problem is, police allege, she was driving on a suspended licence for a second time.
Mehajer was handed a court attendance notice after being pulled up in Berala three days before Christmas, not far from her Lidcombe home, and appeared briefly in Burwood Local Court on Tuesday.
The number plates in question however, according to registration data, are registered to a Porsche Macan station wagon.
The young beauty donned a modest outfit with her hair tied up during the brief mention of her charge in court this week.
She made headlines in 2016 after winning Miss Lebanon Australia, before controversy arose over allegations her high-profile brother had “bought” her the victory.
One contestant complained to the NSW Office of Fair Trading alleging that the contest was not fairly decided.
She was 18 at the time.
“I would love for [NSW Fair Trading] to investigate and see that I won fairly,” she said in the wake of the furore.
“My brother being a sponsor is such a beautiful thing. He’s supporting his community and I think that is so positive.”
Ms Mehajer, who has yet to enter a plea to the charge according to court documents, is due back in court next month.
