The drug-addicted daughter of millionaire property developer turned killer Ron Medich still can’t beat her addiction to ice, ranting and abusing police during a late-night tirade in Sydney’s inner west before Christmas, according to court documents.
Denise Allison Medich, 42, has been battling her drug demons since as far back as 2017, though is now relying on a police-ordered program to help relieve the burden of her dependence on the scourge.
While she has had a number of attempts at getting clean over the years, her stints at rehab have been costly.
According to court documents, when Medich was arrested for allegedly possessing meth in Cabarita in December she: “expressed a genuine interest in taking part in the Merit Program. She has attempted to go to rehab, however, has not been able to afford it”.
Her life had spiralled out of control after what was a promising start to following in her developer father’s footsteps, carving out a career in real estate in Five Dock before falling foul of the law.
In 2018 she was cleared of credit card fraud charges, but was convicted of possessing ice in her car.
Just after midnight on December 12, 2019, after flagging down a cop car thinking it was a taxi, Medich found herself again in trouble.
Medich was forced to be restrained by police when she “became quite hostile and verbally aggressive” after they allegedly found 2.5 grams of methylamphetamine in her shoulder bag.
The mother, police say: “constantly yelled at police saying she had been harassed and constantly abused by (officers) as well as demanding to know why she was stopped”.
It’s alleged when police found the drugs inside her shoulder bag on Cabarita Rd, Medich made full admissions and agreed to undertake the Merit Program.
Medich was due to appear in Burwood Local Court this week but did not show up, telling court staff she was delayed at an NCAT hearing in the Sydney CBD.
In 2018 her father Ron was convicted of the 2009 murder of businessman Michael McGurk, who was shot in front of his young son.
He is currently in jail serving a 39-year sentence.
Ms Medich, around the time her father orchestrated the hit, was part of an award-winning real estate team in Sydney’s inner west.
She has yet to enter a plea to the charge of possessing ice and will return to court later this month.
