NSW Labor targeted in cyber attack, personal details at risk

Online crooks have potentially made off with the personal data of thousands of NSW Labor members after a massive ransomware attack rocked the party’s HQ.

The private data of thousands of NSW Labor members could have been breached following a massive ransomware attack on the NSW Labor Party yesterday.

Party officials contacted members of the NSW Labor Party on Wednesday afternoon to inform them of the attack, telling members they had “become aware that the personal data of some members may have been compromised”.

Party representatives said the matter was referred to NSW Police and an internal investigation has been launched.

“That matters raised are of serious concern, we have referred the matter to police and we are conducting a full investigation,” a spokesman said.

“We will provide more information as it becomes available, including contacting any affected members.”

A NSW Police spokeswoman told NewsLocal “Detectives from Sydney City Police Area Command are aware of the incident and are making inquires”.

Officials were urging members with concerns to contact the party on 9207 2000.
