NAPLAN inner west results: Top schools ranked

The best performing inner west high schools in last year’s NAPLAN can be revealed as parents weigh up options between public and private. SEE HOW YOUR SCHOOL RANKED

Whether to go public or private is the question on every parent’s mind – so the Inner West Courier has crunched the numbers to reveal where each school ranked in the latest NAPLAN results.

It can be revealed that the top-performing secondary school based on the combination of NAPLAN results in all categories and year groups in the inner west is not a leafy, exclusive institution but a public school in Petersham.

Fort Street High School has beaten out the likes of Newington College and Trinity Grammar, both of which charge annual fees of $35,000 a year, to claim the top spot for the second year in a row.

The school’s sensational results included scores substantially above the national and state average for similar schools in reading, writing, grammar, spelling, and numeracy across all year groups.

The academically-selective high school had about 900 students according to data last year, 76 per cent of which came from backgrounds whose first language was not English.

Their accumulated average score of 669 saw it finish just above Meriden School in second with 636, who also had a spectacular year for NAPLAN results.

Meriden, in Strathfield, was the top performing primary school in the inner west in terms of NAPLAN results.

Presbyterian Ladies’ College in Croydon came in third for secondary schools after scoring second place on the list of the inner west’s top primary schools, which was revealed on Wednesday.

All of the top three inner west high schools scored above the national and NSW average for similar schools.

Top performer Fort Street High School, however, was one of only two public schools in the inner west’s top 10 secondary institution.

The other was Strathfield Girls High School, which finished in ninth based on its accumulated NAPLAN results.
