A massive $181 million has been donated by generous communities across the state to families in need, according to new figures from fundraising platform GoFundMe.

The platform has released figures sharing data on the top ten NSW communities that have donated the most to the 177,500 fundraisers launched across the state.

Coming in first, the Sydney LGA handed out $16.1 million and also saw one of the biggest fundraisers in the state with ‘Medical Oxygen for All (India)’ reaching $2 million donations within just two months.

The initiative, which was launched by Anchal Goel, who resides in Manly, saw the impact of NSW donors generosity after her fundraiser to support India's fight against Covid smashed her initial goal of $30,000.

“None of this would have been possible without the support we received from all of you and our Partners,” she said.

“It’s incredible to see, people from Sydney who don’t know anything about India, most of them have never been there, but are still supporting the cause in such a high fashion.”

“Our target was $30,000, and we reached that within a couple hours, the way Sydney and NSW have embraced fundraiser sights like these are incredible.”

The second and third spot went to Northern Beaches, $10 million, and Central Coast, $6.5 million, respectively.

Inner West followed close behind with $6 million and is home to a heartbreaking fundraiser by Audrey Rogers, a five-year-old who has recently diagnosed with B-cell Lymphoma.

Ms Rogers fundraiser has raised over $100,000 in two months, with family friend Stephanie Bardsley saying the kindness of strangers could help keep a roof over the family’s head.

“Even now as times are tough with interest rates, people are still banding together and giving what they can and that generosity is overwhelming,” she said.

“If you take out the top 20 donors there are about 526 people who supported it and their donations range from $5000 to $5 which just goes to show how everyone in NSW has chipped in.”

“No one is forcing you to donate or saying you must do it, people are reading this and imagining every parent’s worst nightmare and they want to do something to help out on their own accord.”

The figures from GoFundMe revealed that one in five Australians donated to a GoFundMe fundraiser, collectively raising more than $820 million.

Areas like Lake Macquarie, which raised $5.9 million, came in fifth with Wollongong right behind it with $5.8 million donated.

The Sutherland shire, Blacktown, Randwick and Byron Bay rounded out the remanding top ten list.

Regional Director at GoFundMe Australia Nicola Britton said the response from Australian's to Gofundme is one of the largest he’s seen and is confident it will continue to climb.

“Australians are truly some of the most generous,” the director said.

“A prominent, and consistent, theme is that in turbulent and unpredictable times, Australian communities are stepping up to plug the gaps in fiscal support and back a friend or Neighbour in need.

“What’s most heartwarming is that this trend in giving is not slowing down, despite economic uncertainty.”
