The best mate of a young teen killed after being struck by a truck near Campbelltown has shared the final words they shared moments before his tragic death, as family and loved ones mourn their loss.

Joshua Jack Pike, 13, died on October 16, less than a week after he was rushed to hospital following the horrific moment he was struck by a truck after getting off a bus.

On Monday, a funeral was held at Appin House where Max Smith, one of Josh’s best mates, proudly spoke of their friendship and what it meant to him.

He spoke of how Josh yelled out “see you later Max” and thanked the bus driver just before he got off the bus on that fateful day.

Max spoke of how the pair were often separated in school due to their constant laughter and shenanigans.

“He was the light and the rock of my life,” he said. “Until we meet again, rest in peace Joshy.”

The service was a clear celebration of his life as Josh‘s loved ones donned his favourite colours, pink and purple, as balloons in the same colour were dotted around the room.

As a purple hearse was carried into the room, the speakers blared Hypnotize, by Notorious B. I. G, a testament to his love for rap, “the louder the better”.

Celebrant Ray Frew read out a reflection on behalf of Josh’s parents Leah and Garry who shared their loving memories of the bright boy who made friends everywhere he went.

“I believe Josh was put on this earth to make people laugh,” Mr Frew read out.

“All Josh ever wanted was the people he cared about to be happy and laughing regardless of the situation.”

Mr Frew shared the story of how Josh once gave away his AirPods to another child who did not have any.

He told of how Josh was fiercely protective of the women in his life and all his siblings, and would always tell his family “I love you”.

“For only having 13 years under his belt, he taught us a lot,” Mr Frew read out. “I know you’re looking down on us now bud, I need you to know how much we love you … you have left a massive hole in our hearts and our lives.”

Mr Frew also read out a reflection from Josh’s older sister Dyllin.

“I will be forever grateful for every second we had together.”

Following the service, loved ones placed flowers on the hearse before a balloon release and a Haka was performed in honour of Josh.

A guard of honour and footy game were planned for after as part of the celebration of life.

Following the loss, there was an outpouring of support in the community with more than $50,000 raised to help the Pike family as they mourned the loss of their “brave little fighter”.
