More than $25,000 has been raised for the family of a 16-year-old boy from Doonside who allegedly died after a brutal bashing which was filmed and later posted to social media.
The boy, who cannot be named, died in hospital on Saturday after allegedly being assaulted by a group of attackers who were forcing him to apologise on camera.
The incident is believed to be related to warring street gangs in Western Sydney.
“My heart breaks for this family,” one person who donated said.
“No young life should be taken before he even has the chance to see how great he can be,” another wrote.
Tributes from residents across the Doonside and western Sydney areas have been pouring in after his death shocked the community.
A funeral home director from Penrith has also offered his services to help the family in the hour of need.
Meanwhile another petition now has 12,000 signatures after the organisers called for justice over the tragedy.
Five children – aged between 13 and 15 – and 19-year-old woman Kayla Dawson have been charged with murder following the incident.
A graphic video of the alleged attack showed the group forcing the teenager to denounce his association to ‘21’ and apologise to the camera, bloodied and bruised, to another gang called ‘27’.
Both groups are rival street gangs operating out of western Sydney based on postcodes and have links to well-known rappers.
Dawson is to appear before Blacktown Local Court today.
