The incident is believed to be related to warring street gangs in Western Sydney.

Several people in the video can be heard telling the boy to denounce his association to one – called ‘21’ – and apologise to another called ‘27’. Both are rival groups operating around Doonside and Western Sydney who have links to well-known rappers.

The gangs have also been behind a wave of youth violence in the past year with the likes of ‘OneFour’, another gang who shares the same name as a high-profile music group.

All five of the teenagers were apprehended in the days after the alleged attack and have now been charged with murder after the boy’s death.
