DOG owners are on high alert after bread laced with rat poison was found at two locations on a major Dulwich Hill street.
Soren Homme said he was walking his dogs about 2pm on July 30 when he noticed half a slice of bread with peanut butter and Ratsak “mashed into it” on The Boulevarde at the corner of Eltham St.
He found an identical slice further up the street at the corner of Pigott St.
“I knew what it was straight away because Ratsak is pretty distinctive looking so I threw it in the nearest bin and then reported it to Marrickville police,” Mr Homme said.
“I’m not sure if it was a stunt or if someone is deliberately targeting dogs but there are a lot of dogs on this street.

“I feel frustrated because as a dog owner you do the right thing and clean up after your pet and there’s someone out their putting their lives at risk. It’s not good for possums or cats either.”
Mr Homme said ratsack was found in two yards on the same street as well as New Canterbury Road about four or five years ago.
“I thought: ‘Oh no, not again’. If someone’s got a problem with a specific dog, why leave poison on a public street?

“When I posted it on Facebook, dog owners were very concerned but also mums with kids.”
Dulwich Hill dog owner Lisa Liber said the discovery has made her “vigilant” as her pooch Fizzy is the type of pup who would eat bread off the ground.
“She is part sausage dog and so is very food driven, she eats anything,” she said.
“I was terrified because your dog is part of your family and it’s like someone trying to hurt one of your kids, it’s really frightening.”
