A man accused of carrying out a sex act in front of two children escaped from a hospital through a “faulty door”.
Dimce Ristovski, 55, was charged with obscene exposure and committing a sex act in front of two children in Epping after allegedly exposing himself to a 13-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy.
The Islington, Newcastle man, also known as Jimmy, was ordered by a court on Monday to undergo a mental health assessment and be detained at Concord Hospital. Yet within hours of his admission, he went missing.
The Northern District Times can reveal the man escaped through a faulty door at the hospital.
A Sydney Local Health District spokesman confirmed the patient absconded from the Admissions Centre at the Concord Centre for Mental Health.
“Police were notified immediately and security staff from Concord Repatriation General Hospital assisted in searching for the patient,” the spokesman said.
“It has been established the patient absconded through a faulty door, which has been fixed.
“Doors and locks are checked regularly and any repairs required are attended to urgently.”
It has been almost 72 hours since Ristovski was last seen.
Burwood crime manager Detective Inspector Ian Pryde said the man was sent to Concord Hospital for treatment on Monday.
“He was an involuntary patient under a section 33 court order and simply absconded from that facility,” Det Insp. Pryde said.
“We are actively searching for him now.”
He said police officers aren’t placed in mental health facilities.
Police have released an image of Ristovski and are urgently appealing to the public for information on his whereabouts.
He is described as being of caucasian appearance, 175cm tall, with a thin build, olive complexion, short black hair and unshaven appearance.
He has ties to the Burwood, Sydney and Surry Hills areas and is known to be a frequent user of public transport.
