Curtis McNulty: Balmain East man charged with fraud, allegedly swindled PayPal of $53k

A man – from Sydney’s inner west – accused of defrauding PayPal of $53,000 has faced court on nine fraud-related charges.

A Balmain East man accused of defrauding PayPal of more than $53,000 has appeared in court.

Curtis McNulty fronted Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday on nine fraud-related charges, including dishonestly obtain/deal in personal financial information. access data by carriage service with intent and dishonestly obtain financial advantage or cause disadvantage by deception.

The 25-year-old hasn’t entered pleas.

Court documents reveal McNulty’s allegedly offending behaviour took place over different periods between October 2020 and August 2022.

During this period, he allegedly defrauded PayPal Australia of $53,462.

He was arrested on August 10 and charged at Surry Hills police station.

In court on Tuesday, McNulty’s lawyer James Castillo requested a three-week adjournment to finalise negotiations which was ultimately accepted by Magistrate Susan Horan.

As part of McNulty’s bail conditions, he is required to report to Balmain police station every Monday and must only use one mobile phone and computer and provide its details to police and present it to the Australian Federal Police on request.

McNulty must not access the internet unless supervised by his parents to seek employment, for banking, medical reasons, legal, education related to his study such as attending online tutorials, lectures or other learning seminars.

The matter was adjourned to August 8 for committal.
