The ballot draw has been released for the marginal seat of Reid with Christian Democrat Keith Piper securing the number one spot on the ballot paper.

There are six candidates vying for the seat, which will be pivotal to the outcome of the federal election.

Greens candidate and Canada Bay Councillor Charles Jago placed second while Labor’s Sam Crosby was drawn in third spot.

Liberal candidate Fiona Martin is fourth on the ballot paper.

The Liberals hold the seat on a margin of 4.7 per cent but Sportsbet has put Mr Crosby as the favourite to win at $1.22 compared with Dr Martin’s $4.

However her campaign received a boost yesterday when former prime minister John Howard hit the hustings with her in Burwood.

Mr Crosby has been campaigning for over a year and is the executive director of Labor think tank the McKell Institute.

He and his wife Rose Jackson, who is NSW Labor’s assistant general secretary, are seen as a Labor power-couple.

Dr Martin is a highly respected child psychologist and small business owner.

They both have young children, went to school in the inner west and have strong ties to the area.

Mr Crosby went to Rosebank College in Five Dock and has been heavily involved in the local community including as a member of St Mary’s Concord St Vincent de Paul Society and Drummoyne Rowing Club.

Dr Martin went to Santa Sabina and Rosebank College and can often be spotted doing the Bay Run.

Young Lee from Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party is fifth on the ballot paper and the Animal Justice Party’s Rohan Laxmanalal is sixth.

Mr Jago said he was running as the Greens candidate in both the NSW and the federal elections “because the federal and state governments have been paralysed on climate and energy policy”.

The federal election will be held on Saturday, May 18.
