A doctor who worked at a sleep clinic in Sydney’s inner west has allegedly been captured on CCTV footage touching his genitals while standing over female patients as they slept.

CCTV footage from 2018 inside the Woolcock Clinic in Glebe was shown to a jury on Wednesday, which appeared to show Ali Khorami standing close to sleeping patients under his care as he touched his genitals.

In one of the videos at the sleep clinic, Dr Khorami, 49, appears to place an unconscious woman’s arm over the edge of a bed and position his groin next to her hand.

However, the quality and angle of the videos made it difficult at times to determine exactly what he was doing, including whether he fully exposed his penis outside his scrubs.

Khorami is currently standing trial in Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court for 25 serious offences including 24 counts of aggravated indecent assault victim under authority of offender and one count of use intoxicating substance to commit indictable offence. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The allegations involve five female complainants who were treated at the clinic, aged between 16 and 29, with the alleged offending taking place during 2018.

It is alleged he touched the patients' groins, placed his penis on them, and touched himself next to the sleeping patients.

It is also alleged he spiked a drink of one of the women before indecently assaulting her.

The jury was shown numerous CCTV clips on Wednesday of Khorami working at the sleep clinic and dealing one-on-one with patients as they appeared to drift in and out of sleep.

The videos shown to the jury will be relied upon for the Crown case, and ranged in length from about five minutes to 29 minutes.

In one of the CCTV videos, the camera is seen to be averted away from a sleeping woman for about 20 minutes before it is then seen to be positioned back over her bed. Khorami comes back into the picture after it has been moved back.

Khorami was monitoring the alleged victims overnight at the clinic, the court heard.

The trial before Judge Leonie Flannery is continuing.
