A young dad and university student has fronted court after being caught with 15 bags of cocaine near Bondi Beach.

A magistrate labelled his behaviour “an absolute scar on our community” in the local court on Tuesday for supplying drugs.

The court heard Macquarie University student Raymond Alnashmi, 18, was spotted by police picking up two females in a Mazda6 late on December 14 last year at Bondi Beach.

The Mount Pritchard man drove around the block and dropped the pair off on Cutler St. Police became suspicious and pulled him over shortly after, the agreed facts stated.

A 17-year-old boy was in the passenger seat and has also been charged with supply prohibited drug but cannot be named because of his age.

Police searched the two teenagers and told Alnashmi that a drug dog was on its way to the location.

After being asked twice, Alnashmi conceded “there is cocaine in the coke can in the driver’s side door”, the agreed facts stated.

Fifteen small bags of cocaine were found inside one coke can, weighing 10.81g, and $1700 in cash was found inside another coke can in the vehicle.

The agreed facts stated two phones were also found in the car with one receiving messages that “appeared to be in relation to drug supply”. Both teenagers were arrested and charged.

Alnashmi has since pleaded guilty to supply prohibited drug and deal with proceeds of crime.

He was sentenced on Tuesday at Waverley Local Court.

The court heard he was studying civil engineering at Macquarie University and working part time at Hungry Jacks, and decided to sell drugs to make money to better support his family.

“It was a fool hardy and very naive way of thinking he could turn a quick dollar,” his defence lawyer said.

The court also heard he has a partner and young child.

Magistrate Ross Hudson convicted him and placed him on a community correction order for 18 months.

However, on August 18 Alnashmi's conviction was set aside on appeal along with the community correction order.

At the Downing Centre hearing a magistrate instead found him guilty of the two charges but without proceeding to conviction.

For the offence of deal with proceeds of crime, he was  issued a Conditional Release Order for a period of 12 months to commence on 18 August 2020 and expiring on 17 August 2021.

For drug supply he was handed a Conditional Release Order for a period of two years to commence on 18 August 2020 and expiring on 17 August 2022.
