An inner west private school teacher accused of sexting what he thought was a 13-year-old girl used an alias when he allegedly groomed the teen, a court has heard.

Fresh details of Trinity Grammar teacher Alexander David Simpson’s week on remand have been aired in court, including claims from his lawyer that he hasn’t been able to change his undies in a week.

The 39-year-old appeared in the Burwood Local Court on Friday where he was granted bail after seven days in police custody.

He has been charged with using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material and send indecent material to a person under 16.

Both his wife and father attended in support at court for his bail hearing.

Simpson’s lawyer told the court the teacher has been in quarantine at Silverwater jail since his arrest last week where he has been denied access to fresh clothes and underwear.

His defence has also argued he has been let out of his cell for just two hours since arriving in custody and being placed in quarantine from the rest of the jail’s inmates.

Police will allege Mr Simpson believed he was speaking to a 13-year-old girl and engaged in conversation about sexually explicit acts and sent sexually explicit images.

It will also be alleged that he was engaging in these conversations on his mobile phone while at work.

The court was told Simpson was using a screen name when talking to an undercover cop posing as a teenage girl.

Magistrate Bruce Williams said the case also involved Simpson allegedly asking for similar pictures from the 13-year-old but “it never got that far”.

Simpson is a senior teacher at the school and a house tutor with Wilson Hogg House.

He is involved in Trinity Grammar School’s cadet program, has a master’s degree in teaching, and is also involved in the year 10 Charity and Community Committee.

The court was told Simpson needed access to the internet to homeschool his children but as part of his bail his use is heavily restricted.

Simpson is also not allowed to go near schools or be in the company of a child under 16.

He will return to court later this year.
