Abdullah Dannawi: Man facing meth supply charges faces court

A long list of large scale meth supply charges were dropped against a man accused of running drugs across the bush because police believed it could have been someone else, a court has heard.

Police smash alleged statewide criminal drug syndicate in NSW

The police case against an alleged ice syndicate supplying large quantities of the drug across country NSW has been delayed because detectives believe deals done by one of the group “may have been someone else”.

Abudllah Dannawi, 26, fronted Burwood Local Court on Wednesday on a raft of drug supply charges in a bid to have onerous bail conditions wound back.

Dannawi is one of 12 people arrested after a major 14-month covert police operation that infiltrated a group they alleged was selling ice in country towns across the state’s central west.

His lawyer Ahmed Dib told the court after initially facing more than 20 counts police withdrew several because they “may have believed it was someone else”.

“There has been confusion in relation to supplies where there are a lot of co-accused,” Mr Dib said.

The court was told electronic surveillance had allegedly detected that Dannawi was supplying “significant” quantities of methylamphetamine as part of his role in the group.

Police raids of several properties after closing in on the group allegedly netted firearms, 1.4kg of gold, railway detonators and $150,000 in cash after several properties in Yagoona, Bankstown, Chester Hill and Wellington were searched.

Police previously alleged in court the group was led by Abdul Wahab Ali Ahmed, 40, who is facing 40 charges.

Dannawi’s brother Omar as well as Maan Elchami, Eren Mehmed and Allan Kiraz were all also charged with drug supply offences as part of the operation.

Magistrate Susan Horan refused to get rid of a curfew condition on Dannawi’s bail condition that keeps him at home from 10pm to 5am, despite police consenting to its removal.

Dannawi’s case will next be heard in the same court later this month.
