Wollongong: Man charged over alleged armed robbery at a business in Figtree

A man has been charged following an armed robbery of a Wollongong business. He allegedly threatened staff and demanded money.

A man has been charged following an armed robbery at a Wollongong business.

Officers from Wollongong Police District were called to a licensed premises on the Princes Hwy, Figtree about 6pm Sunday, following reports of an armed robbery.

Police were told a man allegedly threatened staff and demanded money, before leaving the premises with a sum of cash.

The man was last seen walking in southerly direction on the Princes Highway.

Officers established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

A short time later, police located a man hiding in bushes on O’Donnell Drive, Figtree.

During a search man was allegedly in the possession of a quantity of cash – which police will allege was related to the robbery – and a gold-coloured torch lighter in his backpack.

The 29-year-old man arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with robbery while armed with offensive weapon.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today.
