The University of Wollongong has confirmed a student taken to hospital for coronavirus testing on Wednesday has returned a negative result.

The female student was taken to hospital via ambulance around 10am on Wednesday for testing, after presenting to campus medical with flu-like symptoms.

On Friday, a university spokesman confirmed she did not have the virus.

“There have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus among UOW students and staff,” they said.

“UOW staff will continue to provide support to the student to ensure her wellbeing during this period.”

The news comes as Premier Gladys Berejiklian warns the state has not seen the worst of the impacts of coronavirus yet.

It comes after a sixth person contracted COVID-19 at a Sydney nursing home in lockdown, bringing the state’s total infections to 26.
