An Illawarra man has been charged after police allege he took off after smashing into another vehicle and injuring a woman in the Wollongong CBD.
Thirty-year-old Trevor Manton faced Wollongong Local Court on Thursday, where he chose not to apply for bail.
Manton was arrested on Barnes Street, Warilla, about 10.30am on September 23, more than two weeks after the alleged incident, and was charged with cause bodily harm by misconduct in charge of motor vehicle, drive while disqualified, not giving particulars to other drivers and negligent driving.
In court documents, police allege that about 11.30am on September 9, a blue Ford Territory and a black BMW collided at the intersection of Corrimal and Burelli streets.
The BMW was pushed into the intersection and the Ford hit a pole, with both cars suffering extensive damage.
Police allege Manton fled on foot, while the BMW driver, a 23-year-old woman, was treated at the scene before being taken to Wollongong Hospital with back injuries.
Officers from Wollongong Police District attended and commenced an investigation.
Following inquiries, officers from Lake Illawarra Police District Target Action Group arrested Manton.
He was supported by his father during his brief appearance before Magistrate Claire Girotto.
Manton will remain on remand in custody until he next appears before the court in October.
