Revealed: Which Illawarra, south coast suburbs have recorded the most drug deals

New data has revealed which Illawarra and south coast suburbs have recorded the most drug dealing incidents after police cracked down on major drug operations in the Illawarra.

New crime statistics have revealed where police have busted the highest number of drug deals across the Illawarra and south coast, after major crackdowns on drug operations across the region.

Figures from the Bureau of Crime Statistics reveal the suburbs of Wollongong and Berkeley had the highest number of drug deals in the year to June 2020, with 58 and 125 respectively.

Cocaine and amphetamines were the drug of choice in Wollongong, with a total of 26 deals occuring over the 12-month period.

In Berkeley, 39 amphetamine deals were busted while 85 cannabis deals occured.

The 2529 postcode, which includes the suburbs of Shell Cove, Shellharbour, Dunmore, Oak Flats, Flinders and Blackbutt also proved popular for people buying coke, with 14 deals taking place over the 12 months.

Further south, 10 coke deals took place the suburb of Nowra.

There were fewer ecstasy deals caught by police across the board during the 12 months, with eight incidents recorded in the Shellharbour local government area, 12 in Wollongong and nine in the Shoalhaven.

The Wollongong LGA was one of the top five coke hot spots in the past year to June, with a total of 60 deals busted by police, landing it in fourth spot behind Sydney, Waverly and the Central Coast.

Wollongong’s LGA also made the top three list when it came to the number of cannabis deals over the past 12 months, with a grand total of 96.

Over the 12 months, 37 deals in total were recorded in the Shellharbour LGA, 51 in the Shoalhaven and 274 in Wollongong.
