A teenager is in a critical condition after falling from six storeys Wollongong apartment block on Monday evening.

Emergency services rushed to Crown Street Wollongong around 5.30pm last night, following reports a woman had fallen from a balcony at The Crown apartment block.

A witness told the Illawarra Star the woman fell onto a concrete awning, before she dropped again, landing face down on the street below.

It’s understood police arrived while she was on the concrete balcony after the first fall, and tried to catch her before she plummeted to the ground.

It’s also understood the woman was under the influence of illicit substances at the time, with a resident of the apartment block telling the Illawarra Star they believed the apartment she fell from was an AirBnB rental.

“It was horrific … I saw a lot of it,” they said. “The screams were just horrible.”

The teen girl suffered head injuries and multiple fractures as a result of the fall.

She was taken by ambulance to Wollongong Hospital where she remained in a critical condition on Tuesday afternoon.

Police have confirmed they are not treating the incident as suspicious.
