An Illawarra man has been refused bail after high quality CCTV footage allegedly captured him carrying out a bizarre, butt-naked robbery at an East Corrimal home.

Trevor Hall, 42, faced Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday where his application for release was refused by Magistrate Michael Stoddart, who labelled his alleged offending as “highly concerning”.

In documents tendered to the court on Tuesday, police allege Hall broke into an East Corrimal home around 6am on March 4, while the family who owned the home was getting ready for the day, crawling into the property through the bathroom window.

Once through the window, police allege the 42-year-old stood on a box which started to collapse. Distracted by the error, police allege Hall left a screwdriver on the window sill which he’d used to break into the property.

In the documents, police allege Hall walked through the ground floor of the home into a front room, while the occupants were either asleep, or in the shower upstairs.

In the footage, police allege Hall strolled through the house barefoot with a hooded jumper on and a towel around his waist, before dropping the towel to his ankles once in the front room.

“The accused had no undergarments on and is captured walking in the room with his penis and buttocks exposed,” police said in the documents.

It’s alleged Hall then picked up two laptops and a handbag, which held cash and credit cards among either items.

After picking up the goods, it’s alleged Hall then left the home through the front door - still with his lower half exposed.

The owners of the home discovered the shocking incident about an hour later, watching back as a half-naked man robbed them on CCTV footage.

Shortly after, police attended Hall’s nearby home on Railway Parade, where they allegedly found the stolen laptops inside his home.

When interviewed, Hall told police he couldn’t remember being at the location but said the screwdriver was “definitely his”.

The CCTV footage also showed a distinctive scar on the thief’s left leg, which police say matches a scar on Hall’s body.

The 42-year-old was arrested at his home and charged with breaking and entering in circumstances of aggravation, namely that people were inside the home at the time.

In opposing Hall’s application for release to bail on Tuesday, police prosecutor sergeant James Sala said the offence was highly concerning, fearing Hall could interfere with the alleged victim’s given he lived nearby.

“It is a very strong prosecution case,” he said.

“I don’t know what was going through the mind of the offender but it is of great concern,” he said.

Magistrate Stoddart agreed, saying it was a “most unusual set of police facts”.

“This is a very serious offence and the risks just cant be mitigated,” he said.

Hall, who is currently on remand at Bathurst Correctional Centre, will remain behind bars until his next court appearance.
