Ben Thompson, 19, was supported by his mother in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday where he entered guilty pleas to wounding with the intention of causing grievous bodily harm, using an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence and reckless wounding.

Documents tendered to the court said the alarming incident took place in Helensburgh, about 2am on February 21, 2022.

The Monday night attack involved Thompson, a Helensburgh local, stabbing two men with a large kitchen knife with the first-time offender also smashing the windows of one of his victim’s Alfa Romeo.

The court had previously been shown mobile phone footage of the alarming incident where Thompson can be seen waving an iron bar.

The attack occurred in the northern Illawarra town of Helensburgh.

“Come here little f----t c--t,” Thompson could be heard in the video.

“I’m the hero in this street. You’re dead meat pedophile c--t. I didn’t rape him when he was a kid.”

Thompson can also be heard threatening to stab the victims and cut their heads off.

Both victims suffered serious injuries, with the court hearing on Wednesday one of the men was in a “life-threatening” position after he was stabbed close to the heart and lung, while the other victim had an 8cm stab wound to his chest.

Thompson had been in custody until early April when he was granted bail to allow him to attend rehabilitation.

However, after Tuesday‘s guilty pleas, the Director of Public Prosecutions made a detention application arguing it was “inevitable” Thompson would receive a full-time jail sentence.

Thompson‘s lawyer Nick Ashby submitted “once everything was thrown into the mix” the possible sentence was not beyond the boundaries of a three-year intensive corrections order.

However, Magistrate Gabriel Fleming concurred with the DPP‘s assessment of the likely outcome and ordered he go into custody due to the “extreme seriousness” of Thompson’s offending.

Thompson will face Wollongong District Court in December ahead of his sentencing sometime in the new year.
