A 39-year-old computer programmer accused of raping a woman in Towradgi last year says he will fight against his charges.

Fairy Meadow’s Vaughan Robert Rogers was charged with aggravated sexual assault and

inflicting actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse after he allegedly raped a woman in her 50s at her Tarrawanna home, following hours of stalking at Towradgi pub.

Police allege Rogers watched the woman as she drank with friends at Towradgi Beach Hotel in the early hours of October 14, discreetly following her around the pub as she became intoxicated.

Police will allege the woman’s friends put her in the front seat of a taxi about 2.40am, while Rogers allegedly jumped in the back seat, unbeknown to the woman.

The taxi then drove to the woman’s Tarrawanna address, where police will allege Rogers followed her inside and sexually assaulted her.

After the alleged assault Rogers left the home, while the woman called triple-0.

Rogers was arrested outside his home about 10pm on October 16 after police released CCTV footage of him, appealing for public assistance in identifying him.

Rogers, who is yet to enter a plea, appeared in Wollongong Local Court on May 1, where his bail conditions were slightly varied.

Outside the court, Rogers smiled at awaiting media, while his lawyer said they would be fighting the charges.

“Not guilty all the way,” he said.
