A Port Kembla man who a court heard has a “history of domestic violence” has pleaded not guilty to an alleged New Year’s Eve knife attack.

Jason Alan Blow was charged with intimidation and causing grievous bodily harm in the final hours of 2022.

The 49-year-old appeared via video link in Wollongong Local Court where he entered the plea and failed to secure bail.

Documents tendered in court stated Blow resided at a unit on Northcliffe Dr, Port Kembla where he was living with the alleged victim who he had known for about 10 months.

The pair were preparing to visit the woman’s sister to bring in the new year when an argument broke out.

The woman was sitting down when Blow allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and slashed a two-centimetre cut behind her ear.

The documents stated Blow retreated to his bedroom with the woman messaging her sister “I need you to ring the police now. Blowie has a knife to my throat”.

The police arrived to find an “argumentative” Blow who refused to let them in before they managed to taser him.

Officers chucked Blow into the back of a paddy wagon before seizing the knife allegedly used in the incident as well as another knife embedded in a coffee table.

Police took a statement from the alleged victim who said she was scared by Blow who she could hear kicking and yelling in the cage.

Court documents stated the officers observed the cut behind her ear as well as another on her leg, bruising on her forehead and a golf ball-size swelling on her cheek.

In court on Monday, Magistrate Chris McRobert said he was “troubled by his history” before refusing Blow‘s bail application.

“Ridiculous,” Blow muttered.

“How am I supposed to defend myself.”

A hearing date was set aside for May.
