A young Illawarra man is behind bars on remand, charged with shooting two teenagers with a BB gun near Windang over the weekend, leaving one of them with a chest injury.

Twenty-year-old Matthew Kaplantzi appeared before Wollongong Local Court on Monday, after an alleged drive-by shooting on Friday evening.

Police will allege a group of young people were standing in the front yard of a Kurrajong Street home around 7pm on November 15, when they noticed a silver BMW sedan drive past them slowly several times before driving away.

Shortly after, the car returned to the location and police allege Kaplantzi wound down the window, before producing and firing more than 10 shots from what appeared to be a hand gun.

Two 16-year-old boys were hit with pellets from the BB gun, and damage was sustained to the front window of the house and the rear window of a nearby car.

One boy sustained a small puncture wound to his forearm and the other sustained a minor chest injury, the court heard.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended the location and pulled Kaplantzi over, before conducting a search of the vehicle.

During the search, police will allege they seized drugs and a ball bearing firearm, before arresting Kaplantzi and taking him to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The 20-year-old charged with supply prohibited drug, two counts of fire firearm manner likely injure persons/property, two counts of fire firearm at dwelling house with disregard for safety and possess unregistered firearm.

Kaplantzi did not make an application for bail and was formally refused by Magistrate Michael Stoddart on Monday.

Kaplantzi will return to court on November 27.
