Police allege David Minton had unprotected sex with woman but didn’t disclose he was HIV-positive
A man who knew he was HIV positive, charged with having unprotected sex with a woman he met on Facebook without telling her he was infected, has been released on bail.

A man who denies having unprotected sex with a woman without disclosing to her he was HIV-positive, has been released back into the community on bail.
David Minton, 37, was granted bail at Wollongong Local Court after he was charged with having a sexually transmissible disease and not preventing its spread following the alleged encounter on October 5.
Minton allegedly had sex with the woman, who he met in a Facebook group for singles, at her Wollongong home about two weeks after his diagnosis, but did not reveal his HIV status to her. Minton, however, denies police allegations the sex was unprotected, insisting he wore a condom during the encounter.
At the time, the woman allegedly told police she was not aware Minton was HIV-positive until a mutual friend, who was aware of his diagnosis, informed her upon learning of their encounter. Police will also allege the woman said she would not have had unprotected sex with the Minton if she had been made aware of his medical condition.
The Miranda man, who has pleaded not guilty to the charge, faced Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday, where Magistrate Roger Clisdell granted his application for bail.
As part of the strict bail conditions, Minton has been banned from entering, or coming within a 5km radius of Wollongong, and will also have to report at Miranda Police Station on a daily basis.
Minton was released from custody on December 11, having spent 42 days behind bars since his arrest on October 31. The 37-year-old will return to court early next year.
