An Illawarra mum has denied she has a drug problem, after her 16-month old son was allegedly found to have eaten the drug ice.

The Dapto mother-of-two, aged 30, and her partner, also aged 30, were arrested on October 30, after their little boy presented to Wollongong Hospital, having ingested an “unknown substance”.

Police will allege a toxicology test revealed the toddler had ingested methylamphetamine - also known as ice.

Police were notified of the alleged results.

As part of their investigations, police raided the couple’s Dapto home, where they allegedly found a small quantity of ice, charging them both with take action that results in health or physical damage and attempt to self-administer prohibited drug.

Appearing in front of Magistrate Michael Stoddart at Port Kembla Local Court today, the boy’s mother entered pleas of not guilty to both charges, rejecting his suggestions she had a “problem with drugs”.

“I did have, not anymore,” she said.

Magistrate Stoddart then questioned whether she was “in denial now,” prompting her to say “no”.

The court also heard she had missed three merit appointments that she had been ordered to attend as part of her bail conditions.

The woman, who no longer has custody of the little boy, remains on bail and will return to court next year.

The little boy’s father is yet to appear before court.
