A convicted domestic violence offender sobbed and begged as he was denied bail after allegedly breaching an apprehended violence order for the second time this month, a court has heard.

Peter Thomas Musal, also known as Basile, appeared from the cells at Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after police allegedly found him hiding in his girlfriend’s wardrobe.

The court heard the 45-year-old was arrested and charged with breaching an AVO, following previous allegations of an AVO breach and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which the court heard about.

The court heard Musal, who was on bail to a Corrimal address, was serving a community correction order until some point in 2026 after an offence against his girlfriend’s adult son.

The incident saw an AVO put in place to protect the adult son.

Documents tendered in court state Musal allegedly breached the AVO by attending a boozy Easter Sunday lunch at his girlfriend’s adobe in Shell Cove.

After the woman’s son and their respective parents left, Musal allegedly began arguing with her and accused her of flirting with his father.

The argument escalated with the woman attempting to pack some belongings to leave for the night, however, police allege Musal followed her before grabbing her and throwing her into a wall.

The matter will next be mentioned in Port Kembla Local Court.

The documents state Musal allegedly dragged the woman down a flight of stairs before she left the address and contacted police.

An AVO to protect the woman was put in place after the alleged assault and Musal was listed to front Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday regarding the matter.

However, the court heard on Tuesday night police allege they found Musal hiding in a wardrobe at the alleged victim’s home.

The court documents state the woman told police he was not at the address before allowing them to search the home where he was allegedly located in the main bedroom.

It’s alleged Musal told police he was confused about how he had allegedly breached his bail given they had just moved in together.

The alleged victim was in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday with police prosecutor Sergeant Sean Thackray submitting his concerns about Musal’s “seeming unwillingness to comply with court orders”.

Magistrate Chris McRobert said it was “nonsense” Musal did not know an AVO was in place and refused him bail.

“He tries to bluster his way out of it saying he thought it was alright (to be with the woman),” the magistrate said.

“That’s nonsense, I have no doubt he knew an AVO was in place. He has shown a clear and blatant disregard for court orders.”

Musal will face Port Kembla Local Court next week.
