Notorious Illawarra criminal Belinda Van Krevel, who orchestrated her own father’s murder more than two decades ago, is behind bars on remand after allegedly stabbing her short-term boyfriend.

Van Krevel, 43, faced Wollongong Local Court via video link on Tuesday, more than 24 hours after being arrested and charged with reckless wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of wounding a person with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Documents tendered in court stated police were called to a unit on Church St, Wollongong, shortly after 4am on Monday where the alleged male victim, John Green, answered the door.

According to the documents, Mr Green had a wound on his left arm and back and was taken to Wollongong Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition with a collapsed lung.

Van Krevel, who lives in a neighbouring unit and has been in an intimate relationship with Mr Green for three weeks, is alleged to have had an argument with him where she “became enraged” and hit him across the face with a bottle.

It is alleged the accused then picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed the man in the left shoulder.

The court documents indicate Van Krevel calmed down and offered assistance to Mr Green, before another argument broke out.

Van Krevel allegedly grabbed the knife again and stabbed Mr Green in the back.

The documents state police allegedly located a rolled up rug drenched in blood as well as blood splattered on the accused’s shoes.

In court on Tuesday, defence lawyer Max Staples pointed to “inconsistencies” in the police facts including Mr Green initially telling police he had inflicted the injuries.

Mr Green then told police the wounds had been caused by “three males who barged in and bashed and stabbed him”.

According to the documents, Mr Green eventually told investigators it was Van Krevel who inflicted the injuries, however, he withheld the information as he did not want her getting in trouble.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sean Thackray highlighted Van Krevel’s extensive criminal history, including “soliciting the death of her father” in 2001.

Magistrate Michael O’Brien said he was not able to grant Van Krevel bail given her record, with the matter to return to Wollongong Local Court in May.

Van Krevel, who has previously been dubbed Belinda “van Evil’’, came to national prominence for her role in organising the murder of her father, Jack Van Krevel, in 2001.

Van Krevel was in the adjacent room in an Albion Park house with her then three-year-old daughter when her boyfriend Keith Schreiber hacked her father to death with a tomahawk.

The motive for Van Krevel wanting her father dead was the alleged violent upbringing of her serial killer brother, Mark Valera, who murdered former Wollongong mayor, Frank Arkell, and local shopkeeper, David O‘Hearn, in 1998.

Van Krevel served a six-year jail sentence for her involvement while Schreiber received a life sentence with a non-parole period of 12 years.
