A Sydney man remains behind bars after allegedly stabbing an 82-year-old man in the chest following an argument at an Alexandria pub at the weekend.
Mark Coughlan, 61, was arrested at a Kembla St home in Wollongong yesterday, 24 hours after he allegedly stabbed Robert Stewart with a knife at the Camelia Grove Hotel.
The two men were known to each other and had been arguing over a round of drinks, before Coughlan allegedly pulled out a weapon and attacked Mr Stewart.
Coughlan’s victim was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition and underwent emergency surgery.
Mr Stewart remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Coughlan immediately left the pub after Stewart was stabbed, and was arrested by police in Wollongong on Sunday afternoon and charged with a single count of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The 61-year-old, understood to be from Ultimo, did not apply for bail at Wollongong Local Court on Monday and will remain behind bars until he appears in front of a Sydney magistrate next week.
