A Flinders man who police allege held a gun to his girlfriend’s head and threatened to kill her has been placed on house arrest after sobbing throughout his court appearance.

Loklan Dorling, 23, faced Wollongong Local Court via audiovisual link from cells at Wollongong Police Station on Monday, accused of a string of violent offences against his ex-girlfriend.

In documents tendered to the court, police allege Dorling shared a heated Facetime call with his 19-year-old ex about 10.30am on Sunday, a week after they had broken up.

The woman told police Dorling became “highly distressed” and started pushing things over and punching things in his house, telling police she thought he was “having a mental breakdown”.

During the call, police allege the 23-year-old told his ex he was going to “come to her house and kill her and bash her”.

After saying she was going to give Dorling space, the woman called him back to make sure he was not driving to her house, the court heard, however he allegedly answered saying “I am around the corner, you better open the door”.

When he arrived the woman let him inside, telling him to shut the door behind him so the neighbours didn’t hear.

In court documents, police allege Dorling then grabbed the woman by the collar of her jumper and dragged her from the front door to the lounge room.

Police allege he then pulled her into a choke hold, reached under his jumper and pulled out a small black pistol, which he then held to the right side of her head.

He allegedly pushed her to the ground, before sitting on top of her as she pleaded for him to get off her.

In the documents, police allege Dorling then lifted the pistol toward her and loaded it, saying “I am going to kill you, this is all your fault”.

He then turned the pistol on himself allegedly telling the victim “I want you to watch me kill myself.”

The woman cried as she begged Dorling to stop, allegedly saying “don’t do it, I didn’t do anything”.

The alleged encounter ended when police claim the woman’s parents’ pulled up in the driveway and Dorling ran upstairs.

The woman’s dad repeatedly ordered him to leave, before he took off in his Mitsubishi Triton.

Police arrested Dorling at his Flinders home later that day, where it’s alleged in court documents they found a video of him holding a black firearm that matched the description of the one used in the alleged incident against his ex.

Dorling was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with stalk/ intimidate, common assault, use offensive weapon to commit a serious indictable offence and use carriage service to threaten to kill.

In court on Monday, Dorling’s defence lawyer Stewart Holt told the court Dorling would be particularly vulnerable in jail due to his youth and lack of criminality.

Despite police prosecutor Sergeant Dave Weaver opposing bail, Magistrate Roger Prowse agreed to release Dorling from custody, placing him on strict house arrest at his mother’s home.

As part of his bail conditions, Dorling will not be able to leave home unless he is with his mum.

The matter will return to court November 26.
