Wollongong’s new German-themed restaurant — The Bavarian — will open its doors next month, and it’s bringing more than just delicious food to the city.

The new restaurant, part of the Rockpool Dining Group, is set to bolster an already thriving dining precinct on Keira Street, bringing a new cuisine to the city, as well as around 45 new local jobs.

Rockpool Dining Group CEO Thomas Pash encouraged people with a background or interest in hospitality to apply for a role at The Bavarian Wollongong.

“The Bavarian Wollongong will employ around 45 people, including restaurant managers and

assistant managers, chefs, cooks and casual waitstaff,” he said.

“Most of the employees at The Bavarian Wollongong will be locals, with a few managers who are experienced with the group travelling from other suburbs to help the local team settle in.”

Mr Pash said The Bavarian was targeting new recruits who live locally, know the area, the community and will have a good rapport with customers.

“We have full-time and casual positions available, so our workplace will appeal to a range of applicants, including students and experienced hospitality professionals,” he said.

Fit out of the new restaurant, which will occupy the former Max Brenner site on the corner of Keira and Crown Streets, also supported the employment of about 50 tradespeople.

With foods like pork knuckle and schnitzel on the menu, Mr Pash said the restaurant will draw on its Bavarian heritage, while also bringing a unique feel to Wollongong’s dining scene.

“The Bavarian is a 400-seat restaurant, so is great for big groups and a family day out,” he said.

“We offer something for everyone, from hearty, classic dishes to modern, lighter bites, and a fantastic kids eat free menu on Sundays — so it’s a family-friendly environment.”

Beer lovers will have 19 draught beers to choose from with happy hour from 4pm-6pm daily, which coincides with complimentary snacks.

Mr Pash said The Bavarian will also offer “daily deals” so diners on a budget won’t miss out.

Upon completion of The Bavarian, Mr Pash said the next item on the agenda for Wollongong was finding a site for the popular El Camino Cantina.

“We’re always looking for new locations for our expanding portfolio of casual restaurants,” he said.

“We would love to bring our Tex-Mex diner El Camino Cantina to the region, if we can find

the right site.”
