A light plane was forced to make an emergency landing near Albion Park today, after the engine failed mid flight.
Police say the plane left from Albion Park on a recreational flight before it was forced to land in a paddock at Hayward’s Bay.
Two passengers were on board the plane at the time, and thankfully both walked from the plane injury free.
“They was relatively calm to tell you the truth, the pilot’s done a very good job to bring it where he has,” Chief Inspector Craig Ireland said.
Drago Golec watched the plane make the emergency descent on Tuesday morning, shocked at how close it came to the roof of his home.
“It was probably 20 metres above the house and I thought sh-t, he’s in trouble,” he said.
Mr Golec ran from his house and noticed the plane had landed, elated when he saw people walk from the plane.
“I was asking everybody if they are okay and they said ‘yeah everyone is okay’,” he said.
“That’s the main thing.”
A salvage operation will be undertaken to remove the plane from the paddock in the coming days.
“From here it won’t be a police investigation, it’ll be the Civil Aviation Authority that will have a look at the aircraft to determine what went wrong,” Chief Inspector Ireland said.
Police say the flight was linked to the flight training school.
