Libby Ruge: Two to stand trial over teenager‘s death
The two men charged with causing the car crash which killed a teenage girl in the Wollongong CBD were set to stand trial today, but after one contracted Covid, it has been pushed back.

The trials of two men who have pleaded not guilty to triggering a crash that killed a teenage girl on a Wollongong footpath in 2020 was set to begin on Monday.
Libby Ruge, 19, died on a Flinders Street footpath in Wollongong on November 7, as she, her boyfriend Luke Day and friends Tye West and Eva Deans, were enjoying a night out.
Police allege a Toyota Camry driven by 18-year-old Jaskaran Singh ploughed into them, after passenger Arpan Sharma, 21, pulled up the handbrake.
Singh was present in court, however, Sharma had tested positive for Covid and was only able to appear via video link which didn’t satisfy Judge Andrew Haesler who adjourned the trial until Monday, May 23.
The pair faced Wollongong Local Court in June last year where they each pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving occasioning death, as well as other driving offences.
