A Mangerton man with a shocking driving record has been sentenced to 22 months behind bars after evading two police pursuits before being found in a laundry in January.
Shaun Primmer has a non-parole period of 16 months meaning he will be eligible for release in April 2023.
The 27-year-old faced Magistrate Greg Elks charged with possession or use of a prohibited weapon without a permit; police pursuit – not stopping – driving dangerously; driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period; negligent driving and resisting an officer in execution of duty in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday.
At the time of the incident Primmer was disqualified from driving until 2041, but Magistrate Elks slapped a further 12 months onto the ban.
Documents tendered to the court stated Primmer was seen by police under the hood of a pink Mitsubishi Magna in Farmborough Heights about 8.30am before rushing into the driver’s seat.
This instigated two separate police pursuits during a 15-minute period where Primmer was seen driving into oncoming traffic, travelling 120km/h in an 80km/h zone and colliding with a silver Toyota Hiace.
With the assistance of Polair, the dog unit and the Regional Enforcement Squad, the Magna was found abandoned on Kanahooka Rd in Kanahooka – less than 10km from the initial sighting in Farmborough Heights.
In a search of the Magna, police found a taser and six mobile phones.
Primmer stopped a 21-year-old woman driving a Mitsubishi Lancer and told her to drive to a property in nearby Koonawarra.
The car was located on nearby Walbon St, with the 21-year-old providing a statement and fingerprints. She was not injured.
Police set up a perimeter around a home in Balarang Place, where Primmer had locked himself in an outdoor laundry.
Police forced entry into the laundry before placing him under arrest before taking him to Lake Illawarra Police Station.
