A young woman has been committed to stand trial over allegations she assisted two men in their efforts to evade police following a fiery crash that killed an Illawarra father-of seven last year.
Holly Green, 27, faced Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday, where she was committed to stand trial on two counts of hinder apprehension of a person who committed a serious offence and two counts of conceal serious indictable offence.
The charges stem from a horrific crash on May 18, 2019, that killed Warrawong father Daniel Merrett, also known as Daniel Clulow.
Mr Merrett died instantly when the car he was travelling in smashed into the back of a petrol tanker, flinging him through the windscreen of the vehicle, while two other passengers were flown to hospital in serious conditions.
Police allege Mr Merrett’s car was being chased by another vehicle, carrying Darren Butler, 27, Andrew Russell, 34 and Holly Green, 26 following a dispute over $150.
Butler was arrested on May 30, after police allege he spent almost two weeks on the run, calling in the help of three girlfriends and a mate to book him accommodation and give him money.
Russell was arrested outside a fast food restaurant on the Central Coast on May 22, a few days after the tragic incident.
In documents tendered to the court on Wednesday, it was revealed the Director of Public Prosecutions will allege that between 2am on May 18 and 6am on May 30 2019, Green provided both Russell and Butler assistance by “arranging a location to tamper or destroy evidence”.
It will be further alleged during the trial that between May 18 and May 22 2019 that Green failed to bring details of the incident to police despite “knowing a serious offence had been committed, to wit, manslaughter”.
Green briefly faced court on Wednesday before leaving with her lawyer. She remains on bail while Russell and Butler are behind bars on remand. The trio are all fighting the allegations against them and will face the NSW District Court for trial next year.
