Glenn Wilson: Man faces trial over allegations he stole Range Rover at gunpoint

A Figtree man has told a court he ‘feared for his life’ after an acquaintance allegedly held a gun to his head and demanded he hand over the keys to his car as ‘punishment and payment’.

CCTV footage played to the court showed Wilson arriving at Mr Frith’s home on April 9, 2019.

An Illawarra man has told a jury he “feared for his life” after an old acquaintance allegedly stole his Range Rover at gunpoint after claiming he’d kidnapped him and raped his girlfriend.

Glenn Robert Wilson faced his first day of trial in the NSW District Court at Wollongong on Monday, over allegations he stole 50-year-old Figtree man Jason Frith’s car at gunpoint last year.

Wilson was charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon on April 15 2019, after allegedly spending a week on the run following the incident.

In his opening remarks to the jury on Monday, Crown prosecutor Daniel Noll said Mr Frith had feared for his life after Wilson showed up at his home unannounced, and allegedly threatened to kill him if he didn’t hand the keys to his Range Rover on the morning of April 9.

The Crown alleged Wilson arrived at Mr Frith’s home on St George Ave, and was buzzed through the front gate by Mr Frith, who had only seen him “a few times” over the past 20 years.

It’s the Crown case that Wilson walked to the garage to see Mr Frith’s show car, a Mazda RX4, before he allegedly started “fiddling” in the front of his pants. It was alleged he then turned around with a black and silver gun in his hand and pointed it in Mr Frith’s face, before ordering him to “get on the f***ing ground”.

In giving evidence, Mr Frith told the court Wilson demanded the keys to the Range Rover as “punishment and payback” for kidnapping him and raping his girlfriend.

“I said I’m not involved in your kidnap, I don’t know your girlfriend. I didn’t do it, I’m your mate,” Mr Frith told the court in giving evidence on Monday.

“I was fearing for my life. He had the gun pointed to my head. He had it to my head.”

Footage played to the court showed Wilson driving off in the Range Rover.

After demanding the keys, Wilson allegedly reversed the car out of the driveway, telling the man he was part of the ‘Lone Wolfs gang’ and would come back and kill the man if he contacted the police.

Mr Frith contacted police anyway, with the Triple-0 call played to the court on Monday. During the call Mr Frith told an operator Wilson, a “chubby” man, had taken off with his Range Rover after pointing a “little pistol hand gun” to his head.

CCTV played to the court showed Wilson arrive at the premises around 9am, and some discussions between Mr Frith and Wilson, but, the garage area where the gun was allegedly produced was not covered by the security cameras.

Wilson’s defence barrister Will Tuckey told the jury Wilson did not dispute he was at the home, but argued he did not have a gun and did not make any threats, stating Mr Frith’s actions shown in the footage did not represent someone who’d “just been threatened with violence”.

The trial continues.
