Figtree crash: Elderly woman flown to hospital after serious collision with tree
An elderly woman has been flown to hospital in a serious condition after the car her husband was driving collided head-on with a tree in Figtree.

An elderly woman has been flown to hospital in a serious condition after a frightening crash in Figtree this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Walang Ave, Figtree, just after 4.30pm following reports a car had hit a tree.
When paramedics arrived, it became clear a vehicle being driven by an 80-year-old man hit another car, before the shock of the collision caused him to drive 300 metres down the road and collide with a tree.
The man’s wife, who is in her 80s, suffered several serious injuries, according NSW Ambulance Chief Inspector Terry Morrow.
“We had to stabilise [the man’s] wife. She’s in her 80s, she’s got both her legs broken, a fractured pelvis and a nasty laceration across her throat,” he said.
“Age is a very important factor when people have major trauma like she has, blood clots could occur, there may be difficulties with her fractured pelvis, those sort of things so we have to be very mindful.”
A helicopter was tasked to fly the woman to St George Hospital, landing in front of a large audience in a Langson Ave Park.
Inspector Morrow said the woman’s husband was taken to Wollongong Hospital with chest injuries.
“It looks like the seatbelt and the airbag’s gone off, and basically he’s got bruising to his chest at this stage,” he said.
“He wanted to know how his wife was, I explained to him that she’s more serious and we would have to take her to St George Hospital as soon as possible.”
The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Wollongong Hospital to be treated for shock.
