A Mt Keira man who supplied more than 600 grams of cocaine to street-level dealers and alleged principles of another drug syndicate has been jailed for more than seven years, with a judge labelling his operation as “unsophisticated”.

David Ognenovski faced the NSW District Court in Wollongong on Tuesday after pleading guilty to two counts of supply commercial quantity of prohibited drugs, including MDMA and cocaine, after a major police investigation revealed he’d been supplying to two drug syndicates.

Judge Andrew Haesler sentenced the 27-year-old to seven years and three months jail, with a non-parole period of four years and three months, saying Ognenovski’s actions were unsophisticated and fuelled by greed.

“His actions were for greed and profit not just for his own addiction,” Judge Haesler said.

“There is no indication he was living a lavish lifestyle, he was living at home with his parents … but he ran (his business) in a rational, clandestine and efficient manner”.

The court heard Ognenovski came under the notice of police from Strike Force Raptor in April 2019 and Strike Force Yupparra in June last year, as part of investigations into the supply of cocaine and MDMA in the Illawarra.

Strike Force Yupparra was investigating a party drug syndicate being run by two burly redhead twins from Consiton, Flynn and Joel Westman. While Raptor was investigating a syndicate made up of Ognenovski and two other men.

On several occasions between July and August 2019, Ognenovski was captured on surveillance at the Westmans’ home, where he prepared drugs for supply, counted cash and discussed the sourcing and supply of the drugs for profit.

Court documents reveal Ognenovski bragged about the quality of his cocaine to a street level dealer.

The documnets state he was at the Westman home when his associate arrived and noticed the large amount of cocaine, saying: “‘What the f**k. How much is that? Holy sh*t. F**k me dead. I’ve never seen this much rack in my life”.

Ognenovski then described the drug as “Bolivia coke”, saying “93 per cent, best you can get”.

In total, Ognenovski was recorded supplying 637g of cocaine.

Police swooped on Ognenovski and his associates in raids across the region on August 16.

When officers arrived at one address, the resident was asked to open the garage. The resident refused however, telling police Ognenovski had the keys, as he used the garage to store his jetski inside.

Once inside the garage, police searched the jetski, finding 504.6g of MDMA stuffed in a Maccas bag under the seat. While Ognenovski admitted to supplying MDMA, court documents state Ognenovski “did not have knowledge of a large commercial quantity of MDMA being stored in the jetski”.

Ognenovski was arrested afterwards at his Mt Keira home, where police found $40,000 cash inside his residence.

The Westmans and several of their associates were also arrested at Coniston on the same day. The twins have since pleaded guilty to several drug supply charges.

With time served, Ognenovski, who was supported by his family in court on Tuesday, will be eligible for release in November 2023.
