Data reveals Illawarra’s top performing NAPLAN schools

The top performing schools on the Illawarra for NAPLAN have been revealed, with data showcasing the best primary and secondary schools on the coast.

Smiths Hill High School and The Illawarra Grammar School are Illawarra’s top performing NAPLAN schools in 2024.

An independent analysis of newly-released 2024 NAPLAN results has revealed the schools which performed the best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests.

The Illawarra Grammar School, in Wollongong West, had better results compared to other school across the Illawarra, scoring an average of 558.6.

Wollongong Public School was the second best for the region with an average score of 534.0, while Mount Kembla Public School was the third best with an average score of 527.8.

The top performing secondary school was Smiths Hill High School, in Wollongong, where the average result was 686.4.

The Illawarra Grammar School in Wollongong West was the second best for the region with an average score of 614.8, while Illawarra Christian School in Cordeaux Heights was the third best with an average score of 607.

To determine how each school performed in 2024, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Yr 5 or Yr 9) were combined and the average found.

The Wollongong Public School was one of the top performing NAPLAN schools in the Illawarra.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
