Child dies in ATV accident at Meroo Meadow

A child has died in an ATV accident on the south coast. Police have been told the vehicle flipped as it was being driven by a 19-year-old.

A child has died following an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident on the south coast on Monday morning.

Emergency services responded to reports of the accident on a private property off Devitts Lane at Meroo Meadow just after 11am on June 10.

Police have been told the ATV was being driven by a 10-year-old boy, with a 19-year-old male passenger, when it lost control and flipped, trapping the boy underneath.

Witnesses were able to free the boy and treat him until the arrival of paramedics but he died at the scene.

The 19-year-old male passenger was treated for shock and taken to Shoalhaven District Hospital.

A crime scene has been established and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
