Calderwood woman charged over buggy crash that killed young girl
An Illawarra woman has been charged over a fatal buggy crash that killed a 10-year-old girl earlier this year.

An Illawarra woman’s case was heard in court for the first time today, after she was charged over a buggy crash that claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl earlier this year.
Calderwood woman Kandice Jade El Jamal, 31, was charged with negligent driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasioning death, two counts of cause bodily harm by misconduct and two counts of negligent driving on July 3, after a fatal buggy crash at Marshall Mount, south of Wollongong, on February 17.
Court documents allege El Jamal was driving three young passengers in a Polaris Ranger buggy on Calderwood Road about 10.20am, when it crossed onto the incorrect side of the road, hit a fence and flipped.
The 10-year-old female passenger, from Sydney, was thrown from the buggy and sustained serious head and chest injuries.
She went into cardiac arrest at the scene and was revived by paramedics before she was flown to Sydney Children’s Hospital.
At the time of the flight the girl was in a critical but stable condition, however, her condition quickly deteriorated and she died in hospital two days later.
Court documents allege the two other passengers, understood to be two 11-year-old girls, were also injured during the buggy rollover.
The buggy was fitted with two seatbelts, which police will allege were not being used at the time of the crash.
El Jamal did not appear during the short mention and her case was adjourned to December. She is yet to enter any pleas to the charges.
