Blackbutt’s Timothy Burgoyne jailed for sending and possessing depraved child abuse images

A computer science graduate with a disturbing defecation fetish wanted to find soiled nappies for sexual gratification after he sent depraved child abuse fantasies in online chat groups, a court has heard.

Timothy Adam Burgoyne, 25, was sentenced to 18 months in prison with a non parole period of nine months in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to two counts each of disseminating and possessing child abuse material.

Agreed facts tendered to court said police executed a search warrant on November 22 at Burgoyne’s Blackbutt home, where he lives with his parents, after investigators received information that he was uploading child abuse material.

Burgoyne told police his computer and hard drive had child abuse material on it, which included images and videos of erotically-posed children, ranging from newborns to 12-years-olds, showing their genitalia and rape.

Investigators looked through his personal computer to find disturbing chat logs on the program Session and app Discord where he discussed and exchanged images of toddlers being raped with other users.

Timothy Burgoyne was sentenced in Wollongong Local Court.

Police found Burgoyne participated in 45 chat rooms and sent “an extensive amount of child abuse material” and comments including “toddlers … born to be raped”.

He also sent “groom her to become a totally free little cock-addicted kid”, “the girl who hooked me into being a pedo” and “babies are soooo sexy”.

The documents said Burgoyne lived close to a preschool and he made reference in the chat to attending the preschool after hours in search of soiled nappies for sexual gratification.

“I wonder if I should go to the mall sometime with a full ass and fill up a used kiddy diaper”,” he wrote along with “heheheh I could skip the mall and go to a preschool … there’s one near my house.”

Burgoyne told police during the search warrant that the comments were made “in the throes of passion”.

Police also found a drawer of children’s underwear, which had been soiled with his own faeces, a male sex toy and clothing from a local scout group.

Burgoyne’s defence lawyer Patrick Schmidt said his client, who had a computer science degree, had a heart condition, paid for private counselling while in custody and had significant support in the community including his parents who were in court.

The court heard Burgoyne’s parents were former members of the defence force and his father had unique insights because he was a counsellor who had worked for the Catholic Church putting procedures in place for pedophilic priests.

Mr Schmidt said his client was “glad he got caught” because he knew what he was doing was wrong and had been slowly getting worse.

Mr Schmidt also submitted Burgoyne, despite being an adult, was “groomed” by other predators who “encouraged him to go a little bit further”.

The court heard a psychological report said Burgoyne had difficulty forming intimate relationships with women and was bullied at school.

The court heard Burgoyne said he was “solely attracted to children in the online sphere” and would never act on his fantasies, with a psychologist’s report indicating he had “sexually deviant interest in children” and “pedophilia”.

Burgoyne will be eligible for release on August 21 this year.
