A notorious woman – who organised the murder of her father – has been jailed for the bloody stabbing of her boyfriend with a kitchen knife over jealousy and infidelity accusations.

Belinda van Krevel, 43, was sentenced in Wollongong District Court on Wednesday to wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two assaults.

Judge Andrew Haesler sentenced Van Krevel to six years in prison with a non-parole period of four years for stabbing her partner once in the shoulder, which she then treated before she struck him with a knife under the arm, telling him “you can’t get anyone better than me”.

Van Krevel reached national notoriety and was dubbed “Belinda van Evil” after soliciting the murder of her father, Jack van Krevel, in 2001, because of the alleged violent way he raised her brother Mark Valera.

Van Krevel was in the adjacent room in an Albion Park house when her boyfriend Keith Schreiber hacked her father to death with a tomahawk.

Van Krevel served a six-year jail sentence for her involvement while Schreiber received a life sentence with a non-parole period of 12 years.

Her serial killer brother Valera murdered former Wollongong mayor Frank Arkell and local shopkeeper David O‘Hearn in 1998.

The woman has been in and out of court since her release for relatively petty crimes, however things escalated in March when she was arrested after a shocking incident at a unit complex on Church St, Wollongong, where police found her boyfriend John Green with two stab wounds.

Documents tendered in court state Van Krevel believed Mr Green was sleeping with another woman.

On March 5, the couple was at Omar’s kebab shop in Wollongong when she said “I f---ed someone else last night” after accusing him of staring at a “w---e”.

“You’re lying, you couldn’t have done that to me,” Mr Green replied.

The documents state the pair went home where Van Krevel struck Mr Green with a vodka bottle before grabbing a knife and stabbing him in the back of the shoulder.

“You’ve f----ing stabbed me, look how much blood there is,” Mr Green yelled.

The documents state Van Krevel helped strap the wound before telling him “you haven’t been f---ing me, you must be f---ing someone else”.

Van Krevel stabbed Mr Green under the arm as he tried to call triple-0 before laughing “you can’t get anyone better than me”.

Mr Green eventually contacted triple-0, but after telling the operator he had been stabbed he said “don’t worry about it” and hung up.

“You’ve f---ed us now,” Van Krevel said.

Police arrived and when Van Krevel answered the door she said “I just got here, I was trying to help”.

Documents state Mr Green initially told police three unknown men had broken in and stabbed him, however he eventually admitted his girlfriend was responsible for his injuries.

Police arrested Van Krevel who flip-flopped on her narrative, suggesting Mr Green inflicted the injuries on himself or that he could have been attacked by a previous partner.

Judge Haesler said the first stab wound was “premeditated” from behind while the second occurred after Mr Green was “vulnerable” and losing blood.

He noted Van Krevel’s history of similar offending – including when she was jailed for stabbing a different partner in 2013 – and her lengthy criminal record, adding the protection of the community must be taken into account.

The court heard Van Krevel was “traumatised” from her first imprisonment where the cells were described as “large animal progressions” and conditions “were barely humane”.

Judge Hasler took into account her diagnosis of complex PTSD, traumatic childhood and her more recent diagnosis of borderline personality disorder; noting she would need to receive long-term therapy for impulsivity and aggression.

Judge Haesler acknowledged Van Krevel showed some insight into her behaviour and maturity with prison staff.

The court heard she told a psychologist, “I know what I did, now it’s happened twice, why did I do that, I was not in control of my emotions”.

Judge Haesler noted she would “remain a risk to the community” once released but he was confident jail would deter her.

Van Krevel will be eligible for release to parole on March 5, 2027.
