William Murrell: Identity revealed of alleged shooter, charged with attempted murder of son-in-law

An elderly man has been charged with a slew of offences including the attempted murder of his son-in-law after an alleged shooting in Sydney’s upper north shore on Thursday, November 12.
It comes after police were called to a home on Highlands Ave in Wahroonga about 10am on Thursday, November 12, when a neighbour contacted police after hearing multiple shots being fired.
Detectives from Kuring-Gai Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
On November 13 the alleged shooter was named as William Terence Murrell, 73, of Beecroft who is currently in custody.
The alleged incident resulted in his son-in-law Mirko Uskovic, 50, being shot to his neck.
Murrell’s matter was heard at Hornsby Local Court on Friday, November 13, in a bedside hearing, as Murrell was injured to his face during the incident.
Papers tendered in court reveal he pleaded not guilty to charges shoot with intent to murder, use unregistered prohibited firearm and possess unregistered firearm-pistol.
Court papers also show he has not entered pleas to possess prohibited drug, two count of possess ammunition without holding licence / permit / authority, possess unregistered firearm-not prohibited firearm and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit.
The unregistered weapons included a Ruger .22 semiautomatic shortened rifle, a six shot revolver and a Winchester .22 lever action rifle.
Investigators also allegedly found on the property ammunition and 33.3 grams of cannabis.
On Thursday, November 12 both men were treated outside the home on Highlands Ave before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
