Thornleigh Baseball Club’s A-Grade captain/coach Ash Harrigan has said last weekend’s grand final victory felt like “a weight off our back.”
After going 15 years without a championship, Thornleigh overcame Japan Baseball Club 11-2 at Oakleigh Oval on Saturday to take out the 2018-19 Pacific Coast Baseball League competition.
For Harrigan, who also serves as president for Thornleigh, the win was long overdue.
“It was such an awesome experience,” he said.
“It’s been well over 10 years since we last won (a championship). We’ve been stuck in second place for some time and I’ve been with the club since 1993 so age was starting to weary me as well.
“But to finally get my hands on the trophy was a pretty awesome feeling.”
Harrigan added that he hoped the win would inspire the club’s juniors to chase that same feeling.
“We’ve tried hard to build a good, winning culture here at Thornleigh,” he said.
“Hopefully this gives the current juniors something to strive for.”
